Workshop Autodesk
There will be a workshop before the eCAADe08 conference. The workshop is free for all participants. However application has to be made directly with the vendors.

BIM and the parametric concept of “Revit Architecture 2009” and 3Ds Max Design Workshop
(free of charge) at eCAADe08
on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th September (9:00 to 18:00), hosted by the University College of Antwerpen
The Higher Institute of Architectural Sciences Henry van de Velde.

General Description:
Revit technology is Autodesk’s platform for Building Information Modeling (BIM). The Revit Architecture 2009 software is a complete, discipline-specific building design and documentation system supporting all phases of design and construction documentation. The workshop gives an introduction to the BIM concept of Revit and specifically touches the “Parametric Components” modeling abilities with intricate, iterative, algorithmic, and behavioral characteristics and the “ Revit Building Maker” as a flexible and responsive conceptual modeling and design environment. Like no other software tool, it allows for a cumulative understanding of the relationship between expressive, conceptual shapes and built form as the design develops. The designer independently develops conceptual models and maps them to building model components as the design progresses. The designer works fluidly between the conceptual model and the building model, capturing both design intent and detail at the moment of conceptualization.

Instructors: Danny Lobos (Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany)  and Jean-Pierre van Gastel (Product Specialist Media & Entertainment) from Pollux

Prerequisites:Participants are required to bring their own laptops and to install Revit Architecture 2009 before the workshop starts. Revit Architecture 2009 can be downloaded here for “hands-on” lessons.
If you work at any school/university you can get it from the web, if not we have trial versions for the workshop.
The workshop is open to eCAADe 2008 conference participants only.

Application to participate:
Prospective attendees are invited to send a short description of their research and interest in BIM and parametric design and potential question to Bjoern.Wittenberg@autodesk.com (Revit Education Solution Specialist) or danny.lobos@architektur.uni-weimar.de (research assistant)

Overall:
We aim to offer a tutor participant ratio of 1:10 (6) The tutors will be drawn from a very experienced group of expert users. Our aim is to offer a very high level workshop with access to the latest software tools. This is an important and unique educational opportunity. The number of attendees is limited to 20. (12)
